Other girls’ teams placing included Holton, first, 118; Royal Valley, second, 99; Jackson Heights, third, 88; Jefferson County North, fourth, 81.5; Wabaunsee, sixth, 56; Horton, seventh, 21; Atchison County, eighth, 9; Wetmore, ninth, 6; and Onaga, 10th, 1.

Boys

In the boys’ competition, four individuals took first in their events. Senior Mason Engelken again swept the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle competitions. Seniors Henry Glynn and Elliott Strahm also took first in the 800-meter run and shot put, respectively. Junior Kaleb Grimm rounded out the first-place finishes in the javelin competition.

Two relay teams took first for the boys. The 4×400-meter relay team of Engelken, Glynn, senior Braeden Cox and junior Micah Romines and the 4×800-meter relay team of Cox, Glynn, Romines and sophomore Kaden Dillon claimed first in their events.

Girls

For the Lady Jays, the 4×400-meter relay team of senior Skylar McAfee, juniors Kinley Schuette and Morgan Schuette, and sophomore Hattie Lukert took first. M. Schuette also took first in girls’ high jump.

“As the kids continue to get in better shape for competition and techniques improve in field events, times and distances improve as well,” said Head Coach Dave Remmers. “The girls side of the meet was more competitive than we had seen this year, mostly coming from league schools. The league will be strong for both boys and girls, so we are getting a better idea of where we need to be towards the end of the season.”

The Jays’ track and field team traveled to Royal Valley on Tuesday, April 23, for the Big 7 Quad. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
