Marion E. Marmet, 85, of Sabetha, died Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Sabetha Community Hospital.
He was born June 22, 1933, in Sabetha, the son of Wesley and Viola (Eichelberger) Marmet. Marion was raised on a farm north of Sabetha and attended Rock Creek Grade School. He graduated from Honey Creek High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he farmed and worked at the Nemaha Cooperative Creamery in Sabetha.
Marion married Bernita Bucher of DuBois, Neb., in 1953. He served two years in the U.S. Army (1955-1956) with one year in Korea. He owned and operated his business “Marmet’s Service” for 27 years, where he sold and serviced household appliances and did electrical wiring, refrigeration, heating and air conditioning.
He loved the outdoors and for all of his life was an avid fisherman and hunter. In retirement, he joined the Topeka Wood Carvers Association and pursued his loved of nature by carving ducks, fish, pictures, and also making many pieces of furniture. He was a member of the NorthRidge Church, formerly the Congregational Church, where he served as a Trustee and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Melvin Marmet and Merle Marmet.
He is survived by his wife, Bernita, of the home; his son, Terry (Mary) Marmet of Topeka; his daughter, Brenda (Richard) Coldiron of Wichita; his brother, Paul Marmet of Holton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to service time at the funeral home. Interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery following the service.
