The Sabetha High School golf team has qualified for the State Tournament after winning their fourth consecutive Regional Golf Championship on Monday, May 13, at the Sabetha Golf and Country Club.

The Jays took first with a score of 326. Other teams placing were Nemaha Central, second; Holton, third; Marysville, fourth; Jefferson West, fifth; Maur Hill-Mount Academy, sixth; and Perry-Lecompton, seventh.

“We played really well today. Our top five golfers placed in the top eight of the tournament,” said Head Coach Scott Burger. “Our team score was the second lowest total of the year for us. It was an advantage to our team to host regionals, and our players responded in a positive way.”

The Jays took the top three places in the tournament. Junior David Pierson took first with a score of 76. Senior Jesse Burger was second with a score of 79. Junior Carson Ukele placed third with a score of 83.

Senior Marcus Funk and sophomore Riley Lierz rounded out the top eight, placing seventh and eighth, with scores of 88 each. Sophomore Caden Lierz came in 19th with a score of 100.

The Bluejays will travel Monday, May 20, to Emporia to compete in the State Golf Tournament.
