Brown County Commission 6.3.2019

The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 3. Members present were Chairman Keith Olsen and Commissioner Dwight A. Kruse. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting.
Olsen opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. Pastor Jim Farris led the meeting with a prayer.
Matt Sprick, Supervisory District Conservationist at USDA, discussed the Emergency Watershed Protection Program with the commission. Sprick indicated there are areas in Brown County that may meet the criteria of the program. The commission suggested Sprick visit with the Road Foremen and report back to the commission.
John Broberg, Hiawatha Community Hospital CEO, updated the commission on the recent hospital board meeting.
Brown County Sheriff John Merchant reported that there are 18 inmates in the County Jail – 14 males and four females. Merchant also discussed the increased traffic on U.S. Highway 36.
