Sabetha’s sales tax distributions down

Sabetha’s sales tax distributions are below last year’s distributions for May. This is according to the May County/City Local Sales Tax Distribution Report released by the Kansas Department of Revenue. The state issues these distributions two months after collection, so the May distribution is a reflection of March sales.

Sabetha saw decreased sales tax distributions in the month of May alone — $39,683.71 — a 14.5 percent decrease from the $46,413.46 distributed in May 2018. Sabetha’s local sales tax rate is 1 percent.

Fiscal year to date — which includes distributions of just this month, compared with distributions from May last year — Sabetha is down 1.6 percent.

With a sales tax rate of 1.5 percent, Hiawatha’s distributions went up 3.3 percent — from $89,589.86 in May 2018 to $92,541.50 in May 2019. Fiscal year to date, Hiawatha’s distributions are up 1.5 percent.

Holton’s distributions are up 7.4 percent, from $55,529.18 in May 2018 to $59,635.50 in May 2019. Holton’s local sales tax rate is 0.75 percent. Fiscal year to date, Holton’s distributions are up 5.8 percent.

With a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, Seneca’s distributions are up 13.5 percent, from $48,319.89 in May 2018 to $54,829.56 in May 2019. Fiscal year to date, Seneca’s distributions are down 1.2 percent.

County

Nemaha and Brown counties both saw decreases in sales tax distributions for May, while Jackson County saw an increase.

Nemaha County’s distributions were down 4 percent, from $175,457.29 in May 2018 to $168,500.98 in May 2019. Nemaha County has a local sales tax rate of 1 percent. Fiscal year to date, Nemaha County’s distributions are down 1.6 percent.

Brown County, with a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, experienced a 0.7 percent decrease, from $107,542.67 in May 2018 to $106,767.48 in May 2019. Fiscal year to date, Brown County’s distributions are down 1.9 percent.

Jackson County, with a local sales tax rate of 1.4 percent, saw a 5.2 percent increase — from $147,559.89 in May 2018 to $155,291.95 in May 2019. Fiscal year to date, Jackson County’s distributions are up 5.1 percent.

State

Statewide, city and county distribution totals were down 1.5 percent in May. Distributions totaled $83,247,187.98 in May 2019, down from the $84,482,814.75 distributed in May 2018. Fiscal year to date, statewide distributions are up 0.7 percent.
