Brown County Commission 9.16.19
The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Sept. 16, with the following members present: Commissioners Keith Olsen, Dwight A. Kruse and Richard L. Lehmkuhl. Also present was County Clerk Melissa Gormley. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting.
Olsen opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. Pastor Jim Farris led the meeting with a prayer.
Commissioner Lehmkuhl stated that he looked at the tree at the Brown County Humane Society. Lehmkuhl will have Road District No. 1 take the tree down later in the fall.
Sarah Kleopfer, Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce Director, requested use of the Courthouse lawn from noon to 5p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, for the Scavenger Haunt; and use of the Courthouse lawn, electricity and restrooms at 11 a.m. until the parade is over on Thursday, Oct. 31. The commission approved the Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce use of the lawn on Oct. 26 for the Scavenger Haunt and to allow use of the Courthouse lawn, restrooms and electricity on Oct. 31 for the Hiawatha Halloween Parade.
County Attorney Hill requested a five-minute attorney-client privilege executive session. Present for the executive session were Hill, Gormley and the three commissioners. Following the executive session, no binding action was taken.

The Sept. 11, 2019, payroll was approved as follows: General, $71,326.35; Road and Bridge, $14,409.48; Election, $1,745.77; Technology, $1,074.19; Appraiser, $7,405.29; Noxious Weed, $1,718.19; ACC, $6,954.48; JJA Core, $6,705.56; Reinvestment Grant, $1,826.39; Services for Elderly, $2,409.75; Solid Waste, $4,052.85; Special MVT, $2,640.01; Employee Benefit FICA, $7,744.38; and Employee Benefit KPERS, $9,963.46. After State Unemployment/Workers Compensation of $270.10 and Insurance of $3,151.59 were taken out, the total paid was $136,554.46.
The next regular meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 23.
