Bluejay harriers compete at State

The boys’ team placed 11th overall with a score of 253. Other teams placings and scores are as follows: Southeast of Saline, first, 35; Silver Lake, second, 44; Norton Community, third, 117; Osage City, fourth, 135; Lakin, fifth, 141; Halstead, sixth, 142; Anderson County, seventh, 174; Marysville, eighth, 184; Cimarron, ninth, 213; Hesston, 10th, 230; and Burlington, 12th, 286.

Leading the Bluejays was sophomore Cameron Harrell, who placed 41st with a time of 18 minutes, 1.3 second — 1 minute, 24 seconds faster than earlier this season at Rim Rock.

Harrell was followed by junior Braden Menold in 66th place, junior Charlie Bestwick in 68th, junior Darrin Funk in 87th, junior Spencer Strahm in 88th, sophomore Tyrese Bishop in 92nd and sophomore Paul Pearson in 94th.

“Our kids had a great season this year,” said Head Coach Doug Leiker. “Some of our kids had PRs at the State meet and others had a rough meet. We will learn from this meet and get better from it. It will not define us, it will make us a better team. This meet will also make me a better coach!”
